Chia Seed Berry Bowl & DIY Oat Milk

I can't believe I ever bought cereal in a box for breakfast! I discovered chia seeds a few years ago and wasn't sure what all the fuss was about — until I tried a chia seed bowl. The best thing about them is that you can pop them in the fridge the night before, and the next morning simply add your favourite toppings for the speediest breakfast ever.

Chia Seed Berry Bowl

The trick is to put about two tablespoons of chia seeds into a glass or jar, cover with dairy-free oat milk, and stir well so the seeds are fully coated. Fill the glass about halfway with milk, stir again, then pop it in the fridge overnight.

In the morning, add a little more milk and stir to separate the seeds. Top with your favourite berries and a tablespoon of ground mixed seeds. That's it.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of chia seeds
  • Dairy-free oat milk (homemade or shop-bought)
  • Handful of fresh or frozen berries
  • 1 tablespoon of ground mixed seeds

DIY Oat Milk

Making your own oat milk takes about two minutes and tastes so much better than most shop-bought versions. Use gluten-free oats to make this completely gluten and dairy-free.

Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons of organic oats (use GF oats for a gluten-free version)
  • 1 pint of filtered water
  • Pinch of salt
  • Small squeeze of agave syrup

Instructions

  1. Place the oats in a blender with the water, salt, and agave syrup.
  2. Blend for just a couple of seconds — blending too long makes the milk gluey.
  3. Strain through a fine sieve two or three times, discarding the oats.
  4. Pour into a bottle and store in the fridge. Use within 2 days.

Enjoy! Once you've made your own oat milk, you'll never go back to the carton.
