Acid vs Alkaline: Why your body's pH is so important

Ever wondered how important your body's pH level is? The answer is really important! Keeping your body alkaline rather than acid is vital for good health.

What acid does to the body

The first symptoms of acid imbalance are headaches, colds, allergies and sinus problems. As things get more out of balance, more severe conditions appear, affecting the organs, thyroid glands, adrenals and liver.

Acid-making foods include sugars, trans fat, yeasts, simple carbohydrates, alcohol, and refined foods. These manifest in our diet as fizzy drinks, cakes, biscuits, cheese and processed foods. In fact, studies have shown that women who consume hamburgers, steak, and preserved or smoked foods have a higher risk of breast cancer.

Acidic foods also cause inflammation which leads to disease. They also cause indigestion and acid reflux; ultimately, if you have acid reflux, you aren’t digesting your food correctly.

Why an alkaline pH is so important

Your body must keep the pH of your blood cells and other fluids at a slightly alkaline level (7.365) and will do anything to maintain this pH balance. All the body’s regulatory systems work to keep the internal acid/alkaline balance, and your blood is designed to be alkaline.

Alkaline foods include wheatgrass, fresh vegetables, salads, leafy greens, omega oils, nuts, seeds, pulses and whole grains. Green juices are pure liquid alkaline nutrition that is absorbed almost instantly. Consistent consumption of green juices and a healthy alkaline diet will help to bring the body back in balance and create a body where disease cannot survive.
